Maria had lived in her 1980s suburban home for over a decade. The living room, once the heart of family movie nights and holiday gatherings, had grown tired. "The walls were a dull beige, the fireplace was covered in chipped tile, and it just felt… cold," she recalls. "I'd walk in and feel like I was in a waiting room, not my home."
After scrolling through endless design blogs and feeling overwhelmed by "modern minimalist" trends that felt too stark, Maria stumbled upon COLORIA's rough granite samples at a local design expo. "There was something about the texture—like running your hand over a mountain's surface—that instantly felt grounding," she says. "It wasn't perfect or polished, and that's exactly what I wanted. Life isn't perfect, so why should my walls be?"
Working with COLORIA's design consultant, she decided to pair rough granite (medium grey) with wood grain board accents for warmth. The fireplace, once an eyesore, became the focal point: rough granite slabs now clad its exterior, their uneven edges catching the light from the new pendant lights above. The adjacent wall, once beige, was transformed with vertical rough granite panels, their cool grey tones balanced by the honeyed hues of the wood grain board shelving that now held family photos and Maria's collection of vintage books.
