Nestled in the heart of Portland's arts district, Azure Boutique Hotel had a clear goal: to stand out in a city saturated with generic accommodations. The team, led by award-winning designer Mia Chen, wanted a space that felt both contemporary and welcoming—"like a cozy art gallery you could sleep in," as Mia put it. But there was a catch: the building, a historic 1920s structure, came with strict weight restrictions and a mandate to preserve its original brick skeleton. Heavy natural stone was out of the question, and standard concrete felt too cold for their vision.
Enter MCM's Marble Concrete Board and fair-faced concrete. Mia and her team were initially skeptical—could a composite material really mimic the depth of natural marble while staying lightweight? After visiting MCM's showroom and feeling the texture of the Marble Concrete Board (its subtle veining and matte finish felt surprisingly organic), they took the leap. The lobby, once a drab entryway, was transformed with floor-to-ceiling panels of Marble Concrete Board in "Cloud Drift Gray," paired with fair-faced concrete accents on the reception desk. The result? A space that balanced industrial edge with softness, where guests now linger to snap photos (and share them on social media). "We've seen a 20% increase in bookings since the renovation," Mia noted, "and guests keep telling us the lobby feels 'alive'—like the walls have a story to tell."
