Raj Patel, the designer behind boutique hotel Lunar Heights in Boulder, Colorado, had a bold vision: a hotel that felt like staying inside a moonlit dream. "I wanted guests to walk in and think, 'Wow, this is otherworldly,'" he explains. "Not futuristic—more… celestial. Like sleeping under a golden moon."
The problem? Finding a material that could capture that shimmer without feeling gaudy. "Gold can go wrong fast," Raj admits. "Too shiny, and it looks cheap. Too dull, and it loses the magic." He tested metallic paints, wallpaper, even imported stone, but nothing had that "just right" glow—until he saw MCM's
lunar peak golden samples.
"It was like holding a piece of the moon in my hand," he says. The material has a soft, iridescent finish—subtle enough to feel elegant, but with enough sparkle to catch the eye when light hits it. Raj used
lunar peak golden on the lobby's feature wall, behind the reception desk, and even in select guest rooms as an accent. "In the lobby, we paired it with warm wood and soft lighting. At night, when the chandelier glows, that wall looks like it's covered in stardust. Guests stop mid-conversation to stare."
The feedback has been overwhelming. "One couple told me they extended their stay because they 'couldn't get enough of the lobby's vibe,'" Raj shares. "Another guest wrote a review saying the golden walls made her feel 'like royalty, but in a cozy, not stuffy way.'" Even the hotel staff has noticed a difference: "Housekeepers love it—no fingerprints, easy to dust, and it never fades, even with daily cleaning."
For Raj,
lunar peak golden wasn't just a material choice—it was the key to unlocking the hotel's theme. "It's not just about looks," he says. "It's about emotion. When people walk into Lunar Heights, they don't just see a hotel—they feel like they've stepped into a story. And that's priceless."
